West Ham boss David Moyes says he’s a workaholic and needs a break after a dismal spell for him and his side.

The Hammers rounded off a week to forget with their third home defeat win six days against Leicester.

After dreadful performances against Palace and Blackburn, West Ham huffed and puffed but continued to look both completely toothless and painfully slow at the back.

And they paid the price with Leicester being far more clinical and economical with the ball in 2-0 win which piled even greater pressure on Moyes.

The result leaves West Ham just two places and one point off the relegation zone going into the World Cup break.

It has been suggested that the six weeks between now and West Ham next’s game at league leaders Arsenal on Boxing Day can be used by Moyes and his staff to work on fixing the team’s clear issues.

But while the Scot will be using some of the time to do that, he also wants some much-needed ‘me’ time.

“We will be working over the next six weeks to put things right, but we will also be taking a break because that’s what it’s for,” Moyes told West Ham TV.

“I put an awful lot of hours in and I work hard at the club. We do everything we can. And we will be doing the same during this break.”

Moyes is not the only one in need of a break. A large section of fans are relieved they won’t be having their weekends ruined for the next six weeks.

Getting to and from West Ham home games and following the side all over the country and Europe is not easy for the club’s loyal supporters.

Fans are navigating a cost of living crisis, rail strikes and other travel disruption to follow the Hammers.

And many are sick of what has been served up this season. It is not just the results but the way the team plays which makes West Ham a very tough watch.

Not just for fans either. Gary Neville said this week that he finds watching West Ham frustrating.

Let’s hope a chance to recharge his batteries reinvigorates Moyes and his side. Because there will need to be a marked improvement after the restart and West Ham simply must be ready to hit the ground running and get their season up and running.
