Vladimir Coufal has to be awarded the Hammer of the Year award. Come on West Ham fans, it really is a straightforward decision.
That’s not belittling the efforts and performances of the likes of Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Angelo Ogbonna.
Those three players were all very impressive in their own right.
Coufal was just brilliant in every single match he played, however. He didn’t miss one single match through injury.
The 28-year-old bleeds Claret and Blue already.
His reactions after some of our defeats last season proved just how much playing for West Ham means to him.
There is one very important thing that Vlad has brought to the London Stadium too – his incredible winning mentality.
The 19-capped Czech Republic international’s will to win and desire not to lose has been infectious. In fairness, the same can be said of Soucek.
The 26-year-old midfielder’s form did dip during the final couple of months of the season, however.
Meanwhile, Coufal maintained his brilliant consistency throughout.
Vladimir Coufal Hammer of the Year
Brought to East London by David Moyes for just £5.4 million from Slavia Prague (BBC), the 28-year-old surely has to go down as the best value for money signing of last season.
He didn’t put in less than a 7/10 performance last term.
Coufal vastly improved an area of the pitch where we struggled badly during the 2019/20 campaign.
We managed to cope without Rice and Ogbonna at certain times last season. We’re not sure we would have been able to do that had Vlad missed a sustained period of matches.
And for that reason, Coufal should be voted as HOTY. It really should be a fairly simple decision.
