Two specific West Ham United players prove that David Moyes hasn’t evolved for the modern game, in my opinion.
The Hammers are in real trouble at the moment, and the main cause of our problems are Moyes’s archaic methods and tired approach to the game.
West Ham are currently sitting in 17th spot in the Premier League table, just two points clear of bottom placed Southampton.
So what can the gaffa do to turn things around? The way in which he sets up his team certainly needs to change. We have the players to play possession-based football now.
So a defensive setup just won’t cut the mustard anymore. There is another huge thing that Moyes needs to address though in my opinion, and it involves his blind faith and trust in his two full-backs…

Vladimir Coufal and Aaron Cresswell should be nowhere near a Premier League team in my opinion.
I know that sounds harsh, but there is no room for niceties in elite level sport, and those two players are costing us week in, week out.
Cresswell, 33, has absolutely no pace or power, and is constantly found out by right wingers, especially when he is back peddling toward his own goal.
The same can be said of Coufal, 30, and whilst he is better than Cresswell, he is another weak point we have at the back.
In addition to their defensive frailties, neither are very good going forward either, because of their lack of pace.
In the modern game, attacking wing-backs form the cornerstone of successful teams. They create width for their side and force the opposition’s full-backs to retreat rather than bomb forward.
The fact that Moyes has chosen to stick with Cresswell and Coufal, whilst signing only 28-year-old Emerson as cover for one of them, proves to me that he hasn’t adapted to the modern game, nor has he evolved with the times.
That just isn’t acceptable at the very highest level of management in my opinion. Those at the top of their craft are constantly evolving and changing with the times.
The two West Ham players I mentioned prove that Moyes hasn’t evolved. The Scot must realise that the game has moved on. It’s more athletic now and the speed is absolutely frightening.
It’s time for Moyes to mix things up. He’s already walking the plank, and if he continues to show faith in Cresswell and Coufal, he will find himself pushed off the edge very soon indeed.
