West Ham United assistant coach Stuart Pearce has made it perfectly clear who is responsible for the remarkable turnaround at the club this season.

The real reason Antonio started ahead of Haller and will it happen again vs Man United?

West Ham have made their best start to a season for five years. Three wins on the bounce has put David Moyes’s side fifth in the table a third of the way through the season.

But in truth West Ham’s evolution is a continuation of their excellent form at the end of last season.

Remarkable turnaround at West Ham as club makes best start for five years

The Hammers have been in fine form ever since football returned after the first national lockdown.

West Ham were an inconsistent shambles under Manuel Pellegrini. Moyes found it tough going to turn the tide at first.

But he has now turned West Ham into a strong, organised, solid, energetic and committed outfit.

And they have – more often that not of late – managed to marry that with being dangerous going forward.

It has been a remarkable turnaround for West Ham from where they were midway through last season.

The east Londoners dropped into the bottom three after Christmas as Pellegrini’s promising campaign plummeted.

But Moyes kept the Hammers up and they have flourished so far this term and are on track to match the Farewell Boleyn season.

Good sign that Hammers are spoilt for choice when dishing out credit for turnaround

A number of individuals have been credited for the turnaround. From the likes of the transformed Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku to the superb Ogbonna, Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek.

Forward Michail Antonio and his supporting cast Jarrod Bowen and Pablo Fornals have been lauded at different times too.

Tactics and a formation change from Moyes have been key too. And the Scot could be in line for manager of the month after winning every game in November.

Speaking on talkSPORT, West Ham assistant coach Stuart Pearce made it clear that Moyes and the players must take an equal share of the praise for the club’s turnaround.

Pearce makes it clear who is responsible for Hammers evolution

“I tell you what, (it’s been built on) hard work,” Pearce told talkSPORT.

“I mean David’s done a wonderful job – I mean I’m biased I work with him on a daily basis – but the players’s application and their togetherness has been fantastic (too), I’ve got to say.

“There’s a really good team ethic, the players are very receptive to take messages on board that Dave puts into them and to be fair there’s just a nice feelgood around the club at the moment.

“I’m talking about staff members and everybody, it’s a really pleasurable place to come in to work. We are certainly built on togetherness, team shape and hard work and we can’t lose track of that.”
