West Ham United sold striker Jordan Hugill to Norwich City for around £5 million in the summer of 2020 (BBC Sport).

The now 30-year-old forward joined the Hammers from Preston North End in January 2018 for around £8 million (The Daily Mail).

Hugill took a parting shot at West Ham by suggesting that Norwich’s training facilities were better than those in East London.

He was probably right to be fair! The striker was probably bitter as well having played just three games for West Ham, failing to bag either a goal or an assist in any of them.

He clearly wasn’t cut out for Premier League football and must surely go down as one of David Moyes’s worst ever signings, if not the worst.

Let’s get down to how Hugill has fared since leaving the London Stadium though…

West Ham selling striker Jordan Hugill looks like a great move

The 30-year-old forward has struggled to score consistently since moving to Norwich City two years ago.

Hugill has scored just six goals in 39 games for the Canaries (Transfermarkt).

Last season, he spent two separate loan spells away from Carrow Road with West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City respectively.

During this spells, he registered only five goals in 39 games (Transfermarkt).

Making a £3 million loss on Jordan Hugill in 2020 may have seemed like really poor business from West Ham at the time.

Selling him for £5 million now seems like a pretty good deal for the Hammers though, as poor as his form has been over the past two years.

Moyes was clearly scarred from that transfer and chose not to sign another striker until he brought Gianluca Scamacca to the London Stadium this summer.

30-year-old striker Jordan Hugill was a huge failure at West Ham. Fortunately for us, we didn’t lose too much money on him.

The Norwich hitman has struggled over the past two years. And in my view, that makes selling him for £5 million seem like a great deal for the Hammers.
