Robert Snodgrass has lifted the lid on the new role he has at West Ham United this season.

Moyes speaks out on broken promises to West Ham fans, lifts lid on Hammers target

In many ways, the Scot has been one of the victims of West Ham’s best start to a season for five years.

Snodgrass has played a bit part role in the team and has struggled at times to make the matchday squad.

Experienced Snoddy lifts lid on his new role at West Ham

That should not be an issue now West Ham boss David Moyes can name nine substitutes for a match.

And that can only benefit West Ham given the hugely positive influence characters like Snoddy have on this Hammers squad.

The experienced midfielder showed his professional attitude by revealing he has taken on a new role this season under Moyes.

While Snodgrass is still desperate to play and be involved, he now sees himself as a mentor and motivator to his teammates (whufc.com).

“It’s been a tough season not playing as much, but everybody has got a job to do whether you’re playing or not playing,” Snodgrass told whufc.com recently.

‘It’s a different sort of contribution’

“You’ve got a duty and a job, as an experienced member of the squad and as a teammate, to try and make sure you’re helping when you can, giving advice to the younger boys and helping the older boys in the squad, getting them together like a family – and we’ve done that. The boys have been terrific.

“With all the gym sessions, the lads might look to the older boys and say if they’re doing it and they’re still training every day, how is that the case? We need to set that benchmark.

“As I’ve said many times since I was a young lad coming down here, I just want to be a good teammate, and that’s no different whether I’m playing or not.

“You just need to try and get your head down. It is frustrating – you want to play, there’s no question about it, I always want to contribute, but like I say, it’s a different sort of contribution. I’m just delighted for the boys who are getting their chance, because they’re taking it. They’ve been superb.

“When you do get that little bit older, you start to see things with a different perspective in terms of when you’re not playing, so you need to dedicate yourself to the game even more so in terms of being in the gym, pushing yourself and doing extras on the training ground – we’re always out doing shooting.

“We’re just trying to lead the way because it’s a great benchmark for the younger lads to say ‘if the older boys can do it, so can we’.”

West Ham will need their team spirit against Chelsea

It is great for Moyes to have the likes of Snodgrass in the background.

The character and comradery between the players is there for all to see this season.

And Moyes himself has mentioned on several occasions what a great team spirit West Ham have.

They will need all of that when they face wounded animals Chelsea tonight.

The Blues have lost their last two games and results this weekend have pushed them and West Ham down to ninth and 10th in the table respectively.
