West Ham United fans have seen too many promises broken and that is all about to change.

ExWHUemployee dismisses new concerns over West Ham star

That is the message coming from Hammers boss David Moyes this week.

Many believe the relationship between West Ham fans and the club’s owners David Sullivan, David Gold and their vice-chairman Karren Brady is beyond repair.

A growing section of West Ham fans have been protesting for a change of ownership for some time.

‘No more broken promises’ says Moyes

The resentment stems from a series of pledges and promises made to supporters during Sullivan and Gold’s tenure, specifically around the move from Upton Park to the London Stadium.

Promises about the stadium itself and how it would elevate the club’s ambition, spending and potential performance have failed to materialise.

Many now regret begrudgingly agreeing to leave the Boleyn.

As one West Ham fan famously put it on a radio phone-in after the stadium move: “We were promised a state-of-the-art retractable seating solution and a top class marquee striker signing. We got scaffolding and Simone Zaza on loan.”

But big promises are a thing of the past at West Ham.

That’s according to Moyes, who spoke out this week and admitted the club’s supporters have been promised too much and delivered little in recent years (FourFourTwo).

‘West Ham fans have been over-promised’

“I still want to make sure I don’t over-promise the West Ham supporters because I think they’ve been over-promised,” Moyes told FourFourTwo.

“I want to be as straight as I can, I think we’ve got a really good team in the making at the moment. We’ve brought in some really good, exciting players and hopefully in the next couple of transfer windows we can add to that.

“I can’t build it and get it that good right away but I believe I can build it and get it good given a period of time. That’s not me as a manager asking for more time, that’s me being realistic.

“You can’t turn perceptions around of West Ham in one transfer window or two transfer windows.

“This is a massive oil tanker we’re turning around, or I hope we are, and we want to get it turned around and facing the right direction with everybody aboard.”

Moyes targets best of the rest spot

Moyes also revealed he is targeting being the so-called ‘best of the rest’ this season after West Ham’s fine start.

The Scot suggested the top six may be out of West Ham’s reach.

But he sees no reason why the east Londoners can’t compete with the likes of Aston Villa, Southampton and co for the best of the rest spot – and possible Europa League qualification.
