Respected former coach Terry Westley makes bold claim about budding new West Ham star Jamal Baptiste

Respected former West Ham United Academy boss Terry Westley has made a bold claim about new kid on the block Jamal Baptiste.

Remembering when West Ham signed the wrong Scottish left back after Robertson snub

West Ham proudly announced that highly-rated young centre-back Baptiste had signed his first professional deal with the club this week (whufc.com).

West Ham have a proud history of producing top talent for club and country.

Declan Rice is the latest off the Hammers production line.

And many are tipping Baptiste to be the next.

David Moyes clearly rates the England age group defender. The Scot gave him a start for the first team in pre-season alongside Angelo Ogbonna.

He hugely impressed the Italian who told whufc.com he could be a star in the making.

And academy coach Carlton Cole even compared Baptiste to legend Rio Ferdinand (YouTube Show Inside Irons).

Ex academy boss says Baptiste is not Rio but will be a monster for Hammers

Ex West Ham academy chief Westley says comparisons to Rio are wide of the mark.

But he has told Claret & Hugh that there is no doubt West Ham have a ‘monster’ player on their hands.

“I have no doubt people will start describing him as the new Rio Ferdinand but that would be wrong,” Westley told Claret & Hugh.

“He’s in the Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna mould, a big strong no nonsense defender, whereas Rio had a lot of skill on the ball having brought his abilities as an midfielder, to his game at the back.

‘He will be a star… trust me’

“I said in my column 12 months or so ago that Jamal was going to become a monster player.

“Nothing has changed my mind. He will be a star. Trust me!”

Exciting times ahead for West Ham fans who love nothing more than seeing one of their own graduate to the first team.

What Moyes wants he doesn’t get when it comes to Benrahma
