Report: West Ham want to sign Hans Vanaken after £15m bid was rejected in 2020

West Ham United reportedly want to sign talented Club Brugge attacking midfielder Hans Vanaken this summer.

That’s according to Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth who claims that the Hammers are long-term admirers of the 29-year-old star.

West Ham have been linked with a move to sign the 21-capped Belgium international since the summer of 2020.

And it seems as though David Moyes could now be ready to finally pull the trigger.

The Scot missed out on signing Jesse Lingard last month and it’s clear to see that West Ham are crying out for a top-class attacking midfielder.

It seems as though Moyes has someone specific in mind to fill that particular void…

West Ham eyeing Hans Vanaken swoop

Sky Sports journalist Dharmesh Sheth claims that the Hammers are eyeing a move to sign the 29-year-old Club Brugge star this summer.

Vanaken is a very good player.

The Belgian bagged 16 goals and seven assists in 45 games in the 2020/21 season and racked up 15 goals and 12 assists in 50 outings last term (Transfermarkt).

Standing at 6ft 5in tall, Vanaken is a real unit and has the kind of physicality needed to succeed in the Premier League.

There is one problem as far as we’re concerned though. The Club Brugge midfielder will be 30 later this month. That obviously doesn’t correlate with the Red Bull Model that David Moyes supposedly wants to implement at the London Stadium.

Moving to the Premier League from the Belgian league and succeeding is a tough ask for anybody. Let alone someone who is touching 30.

We think that there are better options out there for Moyes to explore this summer.

And bringing Hans Vanaken to West Ham may end up being a mistake.

The Hammers had a £15 million bid rejected for the 29-year-old in the summer of 2020 (The Mirror). It remains to be seen how much Club Brugge will demand for him this time around though.
