West Ham are still keen to sign James Tarkowski and could make a January move for the Burnley centre-back according to a report from the Daily Star.

The Hammers were chasing the 27-year-old for around a month during the summer transfer window.

The Telegraph reported in September that West Ham made a £27 million bid for Tarkowski – one that the Clarets swiftly rejected.

The Evening Standard then suggested that West Ham were preparing an improved offer for the Burnley man.

ExWHUemployee confirmed those claims by suggesting that the east London club were prepared to bid in excess of £30 million for Tarkowski. And the Hammers insider also hinted that David Sullivan was happy to double the 27-year-old’s current wages.

Burnley wanted £37 million for the two-capped England international, however, according to the Daily Mail.

And Tarkowski ended up staying with the Clarets. The Daily Star reckon that West Ham could make another move for the 27-year-old in January, however.

In order for this to happen though, Hammers boss David Moyes will surely have to sanction at least one or probably two big money exits from the London Stadium.

It remains highly unlikely that we won’t part with more than £30 million for a player who will be 28 in a couple of weeks time.

But if there is any chance whatsoever of bringing Tarkowski to east London, we absolutely have to take it.

The Burnley ace is a truly top class defender. And he would slot into our back three perfectly. The Clarets will have to meet the Hammers in the middle, however, if it’s going to happen.

Perhaps £32 million would be a fair price. It’s still Burnley’s prerogative not to sell, however. And if Sean Dyche doesn’t want to lose the 27-year-old, he won’t be going anywhere.
