The Hammers’ need to bolster their defensive ranks has been apparent since last season.

And David Moyes has already moved to address that issue by bringing in Craig Dawson on loan with an option to buy from Watford.

More needs to be done, however.

And it seems as though West Ham’s next defensive recruit could be one made with one eye on the future.

According to Danish website Bold, West Ham are set to sign Silkeborg defender Frederik Alves Ibsen in January.

The 20-year-old, who stands at 6ft 3in tall, has already made 48 senior appearances for Silkeborg (Transfermarkt).

He is a powerful and aerially commanding centre-back. The young Dane seems to have all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League.

Bold claims that the Hammers have already agreed personal terms with Ibsen and the young ace’s move to the London Stadium is expected to be a formality.

It is claimed that the east London outfit will pay 10 Million DKK (£1.2 million) for his services.

He obviously will not be able to link up with West Ham until January, however.

Let’s just hope that Ibsen turns out to be a real star.
