The 24-year-old joined the Hammers in the summer of 2019 from Villarreal for around £24 million (BBC).
He made a slow start to life in east London. But the Spaniard began to show what he is really capable of around October time.
And it could be argued that he has actually been one of West Ham’s best players this season, during what has been a disappointing campaign on the whole.
Fornals is a vital player for David Moyes. And the Hammers boss surely won’t want to lose the £60k-a-week ace (Football Insider).
Short-lived stay at the London Stadium?
It has been claimed by Corriere dello Sport (Monday, May 18th, page 23), however, that the 24-year-old is one of three potential transfer targets for Napoli as they search for a replacement for the soon-to-be outgoing Allan.
The 29-year-old Brazilian has been heavily linked with a £90 million exit from the Italian side (Goal).
West Ham will surely be resistant to selling Fornals, however.
He is still under contract with the east London outfit until the summer of 2024. So they are holding all of the cards.
The former Villarreal man has racked up four goals and five assists in 31 appearances for West Ham so far this season (Transfermarkt).
In 27 Premier League games, Fornals has racked up five assists. And he has averaged 0.6 key passes per game (Who Scored).
Given the current circumstances, however, the Hammers could be tempted to cash in on the Spaniard. Especially if Napoli make an attractive offer.
Having said that, if West Ham do decide to sell Fornals, there will surely be a mutiny amongst the fans.
