West Ham United players will not be given any bonuses if they qualify for Europe this season according to the Daily Mail.
It is suggested that Mark Noble negotiated the players’ collective bonus pot with the Hammers board last summer.
The possibility of qualifying for Europe was not even brought up in conversation.
Let’s be real here, however. Surely those sort of things can be renegotiated.
And if they aren’t, it really will tell the West Ham fans all we need to know about our owners.
Not that we didn’t have a very good idea already!
David Moyes has worked wonders since taking over at the London Stadium for the second time in December 2019.
The Hammers players have been magnificent since Premier League football resumed in June last year after the first UK lockdown.
Moyes’s men have taken it to an entirely new level this season, however.
West Ham are currently sitting in fifth spot in the Premier League table. We can jump up into fourth with a win against Fulham tomorrow, with Liverpool not playing until Sunday.
West Ham players and David Moyes deserve huge credit
If we do manage to finish inside the top six this season, the manager and the players should be rewarded.
If David Sullivan, David Gold and Karren Brady really had any ambition, they would sit the players down and tell them how they will be rewarded if they do in fact earn European qualification this season.
It would give the West Ham players and Moyes another incentive to push on, work even harder and make this season a special one.
GSB won’t do that though. We all know that.
The Daily Mail’s report on the European bonus situation, or lack thereof, tells us all we need to know about our owners.
And that’s why the majority of us will always be #GSBOUT, win lose or draw.
