The Hammers have a truly awful opening set of fixtures.
After the game against the Magpies, David Moyes’ side face trips to Arsenal, Leicester City, Tottenham and Liverpool and home games against Wolves and Manchester City.
It is absolutely imperative that West Ham kick off their 2020/21 campaign with three points against Newcastle on September 12th. Even the most ardent of Hammers fans would be hard pushed to see us getting too many points from the six fixtures that follow the game against the Toon.
And there could be some bad news on the horizon for David Moyes and co.
Football.London claims that key West Ham players Declan Rice and Issa Diop could both be unavailable for the Newcastle game through injury.
Having the Englishman and the Frenchman unavailable for next weekend’s game will be a real kick in the teeth for the Hammers.
And at the same time, it will be a huge boost for Steve Bruce’s Newcastle side.
Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that both players recover quickly and are ready to feature against the Magpies.
Three points will be so much harder to come by without Rice and Diop. And that will be a big worry for David Moyes.
