Report claims West Ham still in the race to sign £35m striker on loan

According to a report from Foot Mercato, West Ham still want to sign Chelsea hitman Michy Batshuayi on loan this summer. The Hammers are currently trailing  Crystal Palace in the race for the Belgian’s signature, however.

Eagles boss Roy Hodgson is leading the way for Batshuayi and is very keen to bring him to Selhurst Park (Foot Mercato).

The Sun claimed earlier this week that Chelsea boss Frank Lampard plans to offer the 26-year-old a new deal and then loan him out before moving him on permanently from Stamford Bridge at a later date.

Hammers boss David Moyes will be desperate to add some more fire-power to his ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

The Scot has Sebastien Haller and Xande Silva as his current centre-forward options. That clearly isn’t good enough heading into the new campaign.

And Foot Mercato claims that Chelsea ace Batshuayi is still on West Ham’s radar.

The Belgium international joined the Blues from Marseille in the summer of 2016 for around £35 million (Foot Mercato).

He has struggled to establish himself in west London, however.

The 26-year-old has racked up just 25 goals and six assists in 77 games for the Blues (Transfermarkt).

Perhaps if Batshuayi is given more game-time, however, he will prove what he is capable of.

The problem for the Hammers is that the Chelsea ace has rejected a move to the London Stadium before on more than one occasion. So he is hardly popular in east London.

West Ham could do a lot worse than Batshuayi, however. And Moyes would be mad not to pursue a loan deal for the Blues hitman.
