According to a report from Corriere di Bologna (September 5th, page 9), West Ham and Newcastle have enquired about Bologna right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu.

Football journalist claims West Ham want to sign £8m ace from PL giants

Hammers boss David Moyes really needs to sign a new right-back this summer.

The problem is that the Scot has limited funds to spend.

Nevertheless, Corriere di Bologna are claiming that West Ham want to sign Bologna ace Takehiro Tomiyasu. And the east London outfit have been quoted €20 million (£18 million) for the 18-capped Japan international.

That fee may obviously prove to be a problem for us. But if the owners do change tact and back Moyes in the market, the 21-year-old Bologna ace would be an excellent signing for us.

Stats

Tomiyasu played 29 Serie A games for Bologna last season, racking up one goal and three assists in the process (Who Scored).

In those outings, the Japanese starlet averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.7 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game. He also won an average of two aerial duals per match (Who Scored).

The 21-year-old is also very versatile, and can operate at centre-back or even in the deep-lying midfield position.

So bearing that in mind, £18 million would actually represent decent value for West Ham.

David Moyes obviously needs a new right-back, but the addition of another centre-back and defensive midfielder wouldn’t go a miss either, with Declan Rice’s future uncertain.

Whether they will be able to beat Newcastle to his signature, however, remains to be seen.
