The Hammers were tracking the 24-year-old centre-back during the summer transfer window.

L’Equipe reported a few days before transfer deadline day that West Ham had made numerous bids for the eight-capped Croatian international.

The Sun also claimed that the Hammers made a £25 million offer for Caleta-Car two days before the transfer window closed.

David Moyes ended up bringing Craig Dawson to the London Stadium on loan from Watford instead, however.

It seems as though West Ham could now make a move for the Marseille ace again next summer.

Buzz Sport claims that the Ligue 1 outfit are prepared to sell the 6ft 4in centre-back for £20 million at the end of this season.

And Caleta- Car would be a truly exceptional addition for us. Well-renowned football analysis and scouting website IBWM recently described the 24-year-old as an ‘exceptional talent’.

The Croatian is an absolute rock. He is aerially dominant and possesses all of the attributes needed to succeed in the Premier League.

Stats

In 23 Ligue 1 appearances for Marseille last season, the 24-year-old scored one goal and registered one assist. In those outings, the Croatian averaged 1.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 4.1 clearances per game. He also won an average of 2.4 aerial duals per match (Who Scored).

Caleta-Car would be a great signing for West Ham. And if David Moyes brings him to the London Stadium for just £20 million, he could end up being an absolute steal.
