West Ham could finally land Udinese ace Seko Fofana this summer, according to a report from Italian media outlet Calcio Mercato.

The Hammers were interested in signing the 25-year-old in January, according to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

David Moyes needs to bolster his central midfield ranks at the London Stadium this summer.

Even if West Ham manage to sign Tomas Soucek permanently at the end of the season, that won’t be enough.

Mark Noble is ageing and is clearly well past his best. Carlos Sanchez is leaving when this season is finished and Declan Rice has been linked with a big money move away from east London (Daily Star).

And Fofana would be a sound addition for the Hammers.

The 25-year-old spent two years with Manchester City as a youth team player. He also spent time with Fulham on loan during the 2014/15 campaign.

The Ivory Coast international is a powerful box-to-box midfielder.

According to Who Scored, Fofana has averaged 0.7 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 0.5 clearances per game in 21 Serie A outings for Udinese this season (Who Scored).

And that shows that he quite clearly isn’t producing much in the defensive department for his team.

He has contributed more in the final third, however, with one goal and four assists to his name in 21 league outings (Who Scored).

Football.London claims that he could be picked up for just £17 million this summer.

That seems like decent value. But perhaps West Ham will be able to barter with Udinese and get that fee down, considering how the global health crisis has affected the transfer market and football club finances in general.
