According to a report from the Express, alleged West Ham target Callum Wilson will not contemplate leaving Bournemouth unless he is offered at least a £75k-a-week deal.

The 28-year-old currently earns around £60k-a-week, according to Spotrac.

Sky Sports claimed at the end of last month that Hammers boss David Moyes wants to sign the Cherries hitman this summer.

The Scot desperately needs to add a new striker to his ranks at the London Stadium this summer, having sold Albian Ajeti and Jordan Hugill.

The problem for West Ham, however, is Wilson’s reported £30 million price-tag (Express). That fee, combined with his £75k-a-week wage demands would be a massive outlay for the Hammers.

And given our current circumstances, there is absolutely no chance we will be bringing Wilson to east London this summer.

But that’s not necessarily a bad thing

Spending that kind of money on Wilson would be a real kamikaze move.

The 28-year-old has a horrendous injury record. Since the start of the 2015/16 campaign, the Bournemouth striker has missed 498 days of football through injury, with two of those spells on the sidelines being due to cruciate ligament ruptures (Transfermarkt).

Wilson’s record wasn’t exactly breathtaking last season either, with only nine goals to his name in 39 games for the Cherries (Transfermarkt).

On top of all that, the striker is hardly popular amongst the West Ham fans.

He scores regularly against the Hammers, with seven goals in eight appearances to his name (Transfermarkt).

And one of those goals back in 2017 came when he handled the ball into the back of the net. But it was his post-match comments that angered the West Ham faithful more than anything else, as quoted via the Express:

“I tried to go in as a striker and follow the ball in and put a little touch on it to our delight but not to West Ham’s.”

Really, West Ham should be going nowhere near Wilson. Even if he was available for half of his reported price-tag, the Hammers would do well to avoid a move for the 28-year-old.

There is a lot better value to be had for us out there in the market.

David Moyes just needs to find it.
