Peter Crouch has absolutely raved about West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice, when writing his column for The Daily Mail.
The 23-year-old has been outstanding for the Hammers from an individual perspective this season.
David Moyes’s changing Dec’s roles to a more forward thinking midfielder hasn’t quite worked out, and we covered that extensively right here on Hammers News yesterday.
That’s not to say that he isn’t the most important player Moyes has at his disposal at the London Stadium. He quite clearly is.
We would just like to see him return to a more defensive-minded midfielder next season, unless he can start producing a more impressive goal and assist return.
Despite my opinion that Rice’s change in playing style has hampered West Ham this season, he seems to be getting plenty more plaudits outside of the club…
Peter Crouch lauds Declan Rice
The 23-year-old came through the ranks at the London Stadium and is now widely considered to be one of the very best central midfielders in world football.
Keeping him at the London Stadium will be absolutely vital for West Ham, if we are to make real progress as a club next season.
And Peter Crouch explained why he is such a big fan of Hammers ace Declan Rice, when writing his column for The Daily Mail:
“Declan Rice deserves it (young player of the year) – and at 23 just qualifies! He is the heartbeat of that West Ham team and I like players who go out there with a smile on their face and look like they’re enjoying it. He’s gone from being a holding midfielder, a sitter, to become this dynamic player who is capable of doing all that defensive stuff but can go past people and take a game on. West Ham’s European journey was largely down to him and I think he is a future England captain. I’ve met him a couple of times. He’s a funny lad, good company and I like people who have a standing in the game but retain a humbleness with it. Declan hasn’t forgotten to smile. That’s the way I approached the game – we are lucky to be there – and Declan realises that. It comes across that way. His personality shines through.”
Rice is clearly a hugely popular figure as well as an unbelievable footballer.
He’s a thoroughly lovely young man, is humble as they come and always has a smile on his face. It’s why the West Ham fans resonate with him so much.
The sky is the limit for Dec.
Peter Crouch has outlined numerous reasons why Declan Rice is such a good player. Let’s just hope that the West Ham board match his ambition this summer and Moyes is able to keep him at the London Stadium.
