West Ham new-boy Patrick Kelly has opened up on how two Hammers academy players helped make him decide to move to the London Stadium.

The Hammers allegedly fought off strong competition for Kelly’s signature, with numerous Premier League clubs trying to sign him.

It seems as though David Moyes is intent on making our youth setup one of the very best in the Premier League. And that’s a very good thing indeed.

Kelly is certainly one of the brightest young talents in Britain and it will be interesting to see how he develops with the under-23s over the course of the next few years.

Kelly is a really bright young talent and there are high hopes for him in East London.

The Hammers have some incredibly exciting young players amongst our ranks and two of them in particular helped sell the club to their countryman Kelly, as quoted via WHUFC.com:

“I’ve played with both Callum and Michael since we were in the U10s and U11s in the Northern Ireland set-up. The internationals started very young for us so I’ve played with them for the last seven years or so. I’m also living with Callum in the Club house so it’s exciting. It’s a bit weird we’ve all ended up at West Ham but it’s cool as well. I was away with them in Malta a couple of weeks ago with the Northern Ireland U19s, and that was when this deal was being discussed. Neither Callum or Michael had a bad word to say about the Club. They said West Ham was a brilliant place to be and had some great things to say about the set-up. They helped me make my decision.”

Patrick Kelly has the kind of ability that could see him go on to become a real star in the Claret and Blue.

He’s far from the finished article and is obviously very rough around the edges but the early signs are that the 17-year-old has something very special about him.

And the fact that Patrick Kelly has two familiar faces around him in the West Ham academy should serve him very well indeed.
