Opinion: Matter of time before David Moyes brings Daniel Sturridge to West Ham

West Ham boss David Moyes desperately needs to sign a new striker this summer. And we think Daniel Sturridge is nailed on for a move to the London Stadium.

We have already sold Jordan Hugill and Albian Ajeti. Meanwhile, Grady Diangana appears to be closing in on a move to West Brom.

The money garnered from those three sales should be pushing £30 million.

But we know our owners only too well. It is highly unlikely that all that cash will be reinvested into the team. Especially with outstanding payments for Sebastien Haller still due.

So with Daniel Sturridge being available on a free transfer, would it really surprise any of us if David Sullivan and David Gold jumped at the chance to sign the English Champions League winning striker?

Would be a massive error

We really should be going nowhere near the former Liverpool hitman.

Football.London claimed a few months ago that the 31-year-old could be an option for the Hammers this summer.

And given our current financial situation, free agent Sturridge will undoubtedly be on the club’s radar.

The former Liverpool striker has experienced awful injury problems over the past five or six years.

And he is far from mobile, nor does he possess any kind of real pace. There are also real question marks hanging over Sturridge’s head regarding his ability to still cut the mustard in the Premier League having been out of action for so long.

Isn’t it a shame that we aren’t in the market for someone young, hungry and mobile like Ollie Watkins.

We acknowledge that there haven’t been any links to Sturridge in the last couple of months. But would it really surprise anyone if he rocked up at the London Stadium before the start of the new season? We think not.
