Mark Lawrenson has risked incurring the wrath of the West Ham fans yet again by suggesting that we are not genuine contenders for a top four spot this season.

The BBC pundit has annoyed West Ham fans in the past by continually backing us to lose or draw rather than win when writing his regular prediction columns.

Lawro’s predictions so far this season, if correct, would have us down in ninth place in the table (BBC).

And last season was even worse! Lawrenson had us down in 15th spot in the table!

The BBC pundit was at it again last night.

Mark Lawrenson annoys West Ham fans yet again

The 64-year-old former Liverpool player was speaking to Off The Ball YouTube.

He responded when asked whether West Ham are genuine contenders for the top four:

“No, and I’ll tell him that to his [Moyes] face as well. I think the problem is, and I think he’s very much aware of this, if you lose Antonio, and Antonio hasn’t got the best hamstrings in the world – he has got two, but they’re not the best – he’ll have two or three weeks out but as Moyes said the problem with that is he then needs another two or three weeks to get fit. Listen, they’re in every flipping competition aren’t they, which he’ll be happy with, but I know already he’s thinking ‘crikey, come March time, we might have hardly any players’.”

He clearly just doesn’t like us does he!

Listen, most West Ham fans are realistic and understand that a top four finish is still an incredibly distant dream at the moment.

But why can’t we do it?

West Ham are arguably the most well-drilled team in the league with David Moyes working wonders in charge at the London Stadium.

The Hammers keep surprising everyone week in week out…even the fans are taken back by the fact that we are actually, you know…a good team now.

Feels weird saying it after so many years of struggles!
