West Ham United have been handed a major boost with the news that Tomas Soucek is back for the season opener against Newcastle United.

ExWHUemployee clarifies West Ham’s James Tarkowski stance, claims new bid will be made

The likes of Football London reported last week that the influential West Ham midfielder was a doubt for the game against Newcastle as he was forced to self-isolate.

That was after Soucek came into contact with a member of staff that tested positive for Covid-19 while away with the Czech Republic national team.

ExWHUemployee confirms Soucek return

There were serious concerns that Soucek might miss out due to the isolation period.

And there were also concerns Soucek could test positive for Covid himself thus being ruled out for a minimum of a further two weeks.

But now reliable insider ExWHUemployee has revealed Soucek will be back for Newcastle.

Speaking on the latest West Ham Way podcast on Wednesday night, ExWHUemployee said ;;;

“He is available for Saturday,” Ex said on The West Ham Way podcast on September 9th.

“Whether they play him or not I don’t know because obviously he hasn’t been able to train so it would be a gamble in that respect.

“But he is available as is all of the players who were on international duty. But Soucek is available because something like they’ve gone down the Czech rules for quarantine rather than the UK rules, there’s a loophole, I’m not an expert on it but it’s something like that.”

But there’s a caveat

Ex then emphasised the Soucek caveat on Twitter this morning, saying: “Whether they chose to use him because he hasn’t trained for a while, has not been decided yet.”

With Declan Rice having got some solid game time while away with England, West Ham’s crucial midfield duo are in line to get the season underway together.

Soucek fears highlight West Ham’s lack of depth

The fact West Ham were sweating on the potential absence of one player exposes West Ham’s horrendous lack of squad depth, before a ball has even been kicked.

There is still a reliance on ageing captain Mark Noble in central midfield.

But Moyes’s preferences on the transfer front appear to be in defence.
