Hammers boss David Moyes brought the 28-year-old to the London Stadium on a season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain last week.

West Ham are believed to have an £11 million purchase option on the Frenchman as well (Wyn Foot).

Areola will undoubtedly go on to become our number one goalkeeper.

For now though, the towering stopper will have to make do with competing with Fabianski for the number one jersey at the London Stadium.

Lukasz Fabianski praises Alphonse Areola

At the very least it will be really healthy for West Ham to have real competition in between the sticks.

Fab spoke to the club’s official website and talked up the qualities of his new teammate:

“My first impression of Alphonse Areola is very positive. He’s a very good person and he just seems like a nice guy. You can see his quality as well out there in training. I’ve always had this thing in the back of my mind that each day you have to push yourself because you know that you have to always be up there with your standards and level of performances and deliver them week-in, week-out. With new players coming in, it doesn’t matter their position. It always helps this feeling that you have to push yourself even more, you have to have this self-drive that will help you to keep delivering your performances at a good level.”

David Moyes will likely stick with Fabianski as the Hammers’ number one for our first Premier League game away at Newcastle.

Areola will most likely br our cup keeper for the time being.

It will be interesting to see what Moyes does if the Frenchman impresses and/or the Poland international struggles during the early stages of the season, however.

One thing’s fore sure, having Areola at the club can only be a good thing for Fabianski this season.
