Leeds United tribute to David Gold after sad passing oozed class at Elland Road tonight before the clash with West Ham.
Gold sadly passed away today at the age of 86, after a battle with illness.
The news came as a shock to West Ham fans, and the rest of the footballing community.
In a statement on the club’s official website, West Ham stated that Gold had died peacefully on Wednesday morning with his devoted daughters, Jacqueline and Vanessa, and his fiancée Lesley, by his side.

It has been a sad day for everyone connected with West Ham. And Leeds responded brilliantly before the Premier League clash at Elland Road tonight…

They may not always do things the right way on the pitch but when it comes down to human matters, there can be no faulting them.

That’s a proper gesture and it stirred emotions amongst many a footballing fan today.
What a lovely, thoughtful touch from Leeds, after the sad passing of David Gold.
Sometimes there really are a lot more important things than football. And Leeds have played an absolute blinder here. A proper, proper football club.
