West Ham United allegedly could lose Czech Republic international midfielder Tomas Soucek in the summer transfer window.
That’s according to football journalist Dean Jones who told Give Me Sport that the 27-year-old’s current contract situation at the London Stadium means that he could be sold this summer.
Last season, Soucek struggled to emulate the form that he showed during his debut campaign with West Ham but we strongly believe that that was because he was deployed in a role that didn’t suit his attributes and skillset.
The Czech Republic international joined the Hammers on loan way back in January 2020.
He was an instant hit at the London Stadium and West Ham made his move a permanent one for around £15 million in July 2020 (Daily Mail).
After his former tailed off last season though, David Moyes is seemingly reluctant to offer the 27-year-old a new contract according to club insiders Claret and Hugh.
And as a result, Soucek could well be moved on this summer…
West Ham could lose Tomas Soucek
The 27-year-old’s current contract at the London Stadium expires in the summer of 2024 and the club has the option of extending that deal by a further 12 months.
So there is certainly no rush to sell Soucek.
That being said, Dean Jones told Give Me Sport that Soucek may leave this summer, with new contract talks at a standstill:
“At a time when we’re wondering what’s happening with Declan Rice, West Ham are also in a situation where Soucek might go as well. So, I believe that there’s another round of talks to come and that Soucek could yet still sign a new contract and stay at West Ham and there are definitely people who want that to happen.”
We strongly believe that selling Soucek this summer could be a huge mistake, unless a ridiculously big offer is made for his services.
The Czech ace still has a lot to offer West Ham.
We would love to see Soucek stay at the London Stadium and for Moyes to play him in his correct position next season.
The Scot needs to give the 27-year-old the chance to prove that he still has what it takes to make a difference for this Hammers team.
If West Ham do sell Tomas Soucek though, we may end up regretting it.
