West Ham have been handed a huge fitness boost ahead of our Premier League clash with Leeds on Sunday.
Kurt Zouma could be back in the squad for the Hammers when we play host to Leeds at the London Stadium.
That’s according to high level club insiders Claret and Hugh.
Zouma has been out injured after he damaged his hamstring tendon during out 3-2 win over Chelsea on December 4th.
And boy have we missed the 27-year-old.
David Moyes brought the 11-capped France International to West Ham from Chelsea in the summer for around £29.8 million (BBC).
And Zouma made an instant impact in East London.
The towering, imposing centre-back immediately made us look far more organised and robust at the back. The partnership that he forged with Angelo Ogbonna really was impressive.
That was all taken away when the Italian was ruled out for the rest of the season in November and then Zouma suffered a serious injury in December.
It seems as though there is some very good on the horizon, however…
West Ham handed potentially huge boost ahead of Leeds Premier League clash
Claret and Hugh reckon that Zouma could be included in the squad for our game against the Whites at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It is suggested that if the 27-year-old isn’t quite ready for Leeds though, he is almost certain to feature against Manchester United the following Saturday.
Phew…that really is great news.
West Ham have looked really shaky defensively during the Frenchman’s absence and having him back and available for selection will be a huge lift for everyone at the London Stadium, as we look to kick on and try and cement our place inside the Champions League places.
David Moyes will be absolutely delighted. And rightly so.
The Scot was desperately searching for a new centre-back when Zouma was originally ruled out for up to three months (The Guardian).
Zouma’s timely return means that West Ham don’t have to panic in the January transfer window, however, and Perhaps Moyes will opt to keep his powder dry for the summer.
That’s not to say that the Hammers don’t need to sign a top-class central defender for the future. We quite clearly do.
But with Zouma close to returning, Moyes can afford to take his time and undertake his due diligence perhaps more thoroughly than he would have done in his search to bring a new centre-back to the London Stadium.
Having the Frenchman back at this stage of the season is arguably the best news, aside from a top signing of course, that we could get.
Hopefully he will pick up where he left off six weeks ago. A fully fit Kurt Zouma walks straight back into this side.
He will be an instant upgrade on Issa Diop and West Ham will undoubtedly be in a lot better place when Kurt comes back into the side.
Fingers crossed that happens against Leeds on Sunday.
