West Ham boss Moyes must address lack of central midfield depth this summer

Beyond Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek, West Ham only have the ageing Mark Noble as back-up.

According to Football Insider, West Ham want to bring Liverpool bit-part player Oxlade-Chamberlain to the London Stadium this summer.

Many West Ham fans have voiced concerns over the potential signing of the Liverpool man.

On one hand Oxlade-Chamberlain has the pace, power and athleticism Moyes wants in his players. The Liverpool midfielder is also extremely versatile.

But the injury-prone 27-year-old has only made 33 Premier League starts for Liverpool since moving to Anfield four years ago in the summer of 2017.

Moyes linked with Oxlade-Chamberlain in £18m deal between West Ham and Liverpool

Football Insider claims the Reds midfielder will cost in excess of £20 million. Throw in his reported £120k-a-week wages as well (Spotrac) and it could turn into an expensive and risky deal for the Hammers.

So West Ham fans who share concerns over a move for Oxlade-Chamberlain will be relieved after insiders Claret and Hugh poured cold water on the growing speculation.

The site claims Moyes ‘currently has no interest’ in the Liverpool fringe player and is instead focused only on making Jesse Lingard’s move to West Ham permanent.

West Ham insider pours cold water on Ox talk, says only focus is Lingard

“In recent days West Ham have been linked to Oxlade-Chamberlain,” Claret and Hugh state.

“A media outlet called Anfield Central has claimed the Hammers have made a second attempt to sign the Liverpool player for £18m.

“However, they claim the message from the club is that Chamberlain is not for sale and unless he personally asks to leave, he will remain at Liverpool and will report for pre-season at Kirkby on 12th July.”
