A Hammers insider has made a hugely frustrating claim about wantaway West Ham star Craig Dawson and the conclusion seems inevitable.

When West Ham signed Dawson on loan from Watford as fourth-choice centre-back it is fair to say most were underwhelmed.

Especially given Watford fans, who had just watched their team get relegated yet again, were delighted to see him go.

Fast forward two years and Dawson has established himself as an absolute cult hero at West Ham.

So supporters were saddened when it emerged the 32-year-old asked to be allowed leave the east Londoners for family reasons as he sought a move further north in the summer.

The likes of Wolves, Aston Villa and a number of other clubs have been linked with a move for the dependable man mountain, who is said to have been commuting down to West Ham from Manchester.

“Ideally, we wouldn’t (lose Dawson) but it’s probably a much more complicated situation that he has,” Moyes said before the summer window closed (Football.London).

In the end Dawson remained and thank goodness he did because my how West Ham need him.

Dawson has become the club’s first choice centre-back and West Ham are all the better with him in the side.

But it seems remaining at West Ham not only continues to put a strain on his personal life, it is hindering his efforts to recover from injury too – according to a source inside the club.

A Hammers insider has made a hugely frustrating claim about wantaway West Ham star Craig Dawson and the conclusion seems inevitable.

A West Ham insider speaking to Claret and Hugh claims Dawson is out of Monday night’s game against Bournemouth.

And the source has revealed travelling back and forth to Manchester has not only exacerbated the injury but also made it increasingly clear his future will be elsewhere.

“Claret and Hugh has learned that his recovery from injury is still a slow process and not helped by his family problems in Manchester,” Claret and Hugh report.

“Daws has a swelling on the dead leg he suffered in the game against Anderlecht and the problem is being exacerbated by him having to make car journeys north.

“The situation is also suggests that his is very unlikely to sign a new deal at the club despite the Hammers being enthusiastic to offer him a new deal.”

This situation is not sustainable long term for the player or West Ham.

Moyes was right to insist Dawson remained if an adequate replacement could not be found before the summer window slammed shut.

But a resolution must be sought in January and Moyes will undoubtedly have a replacement lined up.
