West Ham boss David Moyes has a big decision to make for next weekend’s clash with Manchester United.
The Hammers welcome the Red Devils to the London Stadium next Sunday in the Premier League.
West Ham will be without Michail Antonio after the forward recklessly got himself sent off against Southampton yesterday.
Moyes could play Nikola Vlasic or Jarrod Bowen through the middle. Even Said Benrahma could play in that role.
We think the Scot should think outside the box though.
West Ham could stun Manchester United with surprise selection
Could Tomas Soucek be used as a centre-forward? We think that it might work a treat against Man United.
If Bowen, Vlasic or Benrahma play through the middle, they might just get eaten alive by the aerially dominant duo of Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane.
Soucek, standing at 6ft 4in tall, would be a real problem for the Man United defenders in the air. And with energetic, hard working players like Bowen, Fornals, Vlasic or Benrahma buzzing in and around him and working off his knockdowns, we could cause the visitors real issues.
Moyes isn’t averse to playing a big target man through the middle either. The Scot used Marouane Fellaini on more than one occasion as a centre-forward during his time in charge of Everton and Manchester United.
If Soucek does play through the middle, Moyes would then have to play either Mark Noble or Alex Kral alongside Declan Rice in central midfield. It could be argued that we would then be weaker in the middle of the park. But who knows, perhaps Kral’s ability on the ball would offer us something completely different.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be expecting Moyes to use one of his attacking midfielders as a false nine. So using Soucek in that role may well shock Manchester United to some extent and subsequently give West Ham a good chance of wining the game.
