Jermain Defoe has delivered his verdict on West Ham signing Danny Ings, when speaking exclusively to Football.London.

Hammers boss David Moyes brought Ings, 30, to the London Stadium from Aston Villa for around £12 million (plus £3 million in add-ons) in the January transfer window (talkSPORT).

So far, Ings has had to make do with just two substitute appearances for West Ham.

Moyes has given the experienced striker just 30 minutes of action so far. A knee injury that he picked up two weeks ago hasn’t helped him settle into life at the London Stadium, that’s for sure.

I’m hoping that we will soon see the best of Ings, and Defoe has just given his verdict on the striker…

Jermain Defoe praises Danny Ings

The ex-Hammers hitman knows a good striker when he sees one. He was one of the best around for at least a decade after all.

Defoe sat down for an interview with Football.London and responded when asked his thoughts on West Ham’s recent signing of Danny Ings:

“He’s top, what a signing that is. He likes that kit doesn’t he, Danny Ings? Burnley, Villa and now, he likes that colour kit. I think he will do well. He is someone who is a top, top player, top, top player, goalscorer. He will score a lot of goals there. That is the signing they need I think, I think that is the one and now they have got him in, I think he could be the difference. I know that is a lot of pressure on him but when you are a number nine, that’s what it is. I think he could be the difference.”

I agree wholeheartedly with Defoe.

If Moyes plays Ings regularly, and the 30-year-old stays fit, he will definitely score the goals we need to remain in the Premier League.

I will be nice to see Ings actually start a game soon. It must be so hard for new signings to find a rhythm when they only get 10 or 15 minutes here and there.

Let’s hope that it isn’t too long before Danny Ings breaks his goalscoring duck for West Ham. Like Jermain Defoe said, he is a top player, and he should make a huge difference for us between now and the end of the season.
