Gareth Southgate was somewhat critical of Declan Rice after the West Ham ace’s celebration during England’s 4-0 win against Hungary in the week.

The Three Lions boss urged Dec to be careful in the future (The Telegraph):

“Declan is usually in most memes that get posted on social media in one way or another. I think we needed to be a little bit careful in how our interaction with the crowd was the other day.”

Some West Ham fans have reacted angrily in reaction to the England manager’s comments on their star man, however.

The game between England and Hungary was heated to say the least.

The hosts were battered in the end. The goals all came in the second-half after the England players were subjected to some horrendous and unacceptable racial abuse.

 

Sure, Rice shouldn’t have put a cup to his lips for Covid reasons. But aside from that, there is nothing wrong with giving the crowd a bit of stick back.

Especially when they are vile racists.

At 22, Declan still has a lot to learn of course. But we think he is an exceptionally mature young man and has always carried himself extremely well.

Southgate took a needless swipe at the West Ham ace with his comments yesterday.
