West Ham United have been branded lucky after the 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

West Ham want former Newcastle striker in January claims insider

Aston Villa missed a penalty, several good chances and had a last gasp goal ruled out by VAR for offside.

But West Ham took their chances and held on for a third straight win.

All the talk during and after the game was that the Hammers got away with one.

But who cares? For once fortune was not hiding.

Fortune’s not always hiding for West Ham

And West Ham do not owe anyone an apology.

They say things even themselves out over the course of a Premier League season.

Well if that is the case then West Ham got the balance tipped back in their favour after some horrendous decisions that have already cost them three points and possibly more this season alone.

In the season opener against Newcastle West Ham were poor.

But the Newcastle opener could have been ruled out and West Ham were denied what was – at the time with the handball rule that was in place – a clear penalty.

Hammers have missed out on at least three points if not more through bad decisions this season alone

Callum Wilson’s high foot – which was above Lukasz Fabianski’s head and close to striking him in the face – gave the Magpies the lead in that game.

Then in the second game against Arsenal, West Ham were much the better side and deserved to win let alone draw.

Again West Ham were denied a clear penalty for handball and went on to lose the game 2-1 in the last moments.

At Liverpool, West Ham were winning 1-0 but Mo Salah’s pathetic dive drew the Reds level.

Then late on Diogo Jota’s goal could have been ruled out as Sadio Mane may have been seen by some as interfering with play in a clear offside position.

Drink up Villa’s tears and eat the sour grapes, they taste great

Alas West Ham got nothing out of any of those games.

But their luck finally came in against Villa and they should embrace it.

West Ham have earned their bit of good fortune if anything.

David Moyes’s side have negotiated an extremely difficult start to the season in style and sit fifth in the Premier League table past the quarter-way stage.

After Jack Grealish’s antics Villa should be ashamed not West Ham.

So West Ham fans should drink the tears of John Terry and Grealish. Eat the sour grapes of Dean Smith. They taste great.
