Former West Ham United assistant coach Edin Terzic has been appointed as interim boss at Borussia Dortmund.
Terzic joined West Ham to work with Slaven Bilic in 2015 having worked with him at Besiktas previously.
Terzic was an integral part of the management setup which led West Ham to their best ever Premier League points total in the Farewell Boleyn season.
Former West Ham assistant appointed Dortmund boss
Had it not been for a joint league highest 14 draws that season, West Ham would have comfortably finished in the Champions League places.
Instead they missed out by just four points.
Bilic was given the credit for what was West Ham’s joint second highest Premier League finish.
West Ham have made their best start to a season since that memorable campaign.
Indeed David Moyes’s Hammers are just one point worse off than Terzic and Bilic’s side were at the same stage five years ago.
Hammers enjoying best season since Terzic helped inspire memorable Farewell Boleyn campaign
While West Ham are enjoying success, Terzic has been handed his big chance to take the limelight at European giants Dortmund.
It comes after Dortmund boss Lucien Favre was sacked following a 5-1 defeat to Stuttgart.
The Swiss conceded himself that the defeat was ‘a catastrophe’.
And so it has proved for his job after he was dismissed and ex West Ham assistant Terzic was appointed until at least the end of the season.
Terzic has been back at Dortmund, where he was a youth team coach, as assistant to Favre since his appointment in 2018.
Terzic is still only 38 but has held a UEFA Pro Licence qualification for many years after graduating from an 18-month course with The Football Association here in England.
How will ex Hammer fare in the hot seat and can West Ham join him in Europe?
West Ham fans will undoubtedly take a keen interest in how Terzic fares as a manager.
He has some firepower at his disposal too with the likes of Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho to choose from.
Meanwhile West Ham have been tipped to join the likes of Dortmund in Europe next season IF they sign Josh King in January.
Hammers legend Trevor Sinclair has been so impressed with the Hammer he is tipping them to join the elite if they bolster their frontline with Moyes’s priority signing next month – read the full story here.
