Claude Puel highlighted how similar West Ham winger Said Benrahma is to Real Madrid ace Eden Hazard, when speaking exclusively to the Athletic.
The Hammers finally got a deal for the 25-year-old winger over the line at the last knockings on transfer deadline day.
West Ham have paid a £4 million loan fee for Benrahma and will be obliged to make that deal a permanent one for a further £21 million plus £5 million in add-ons next summer (The Guardian).
The Algeria international racked up 17 goals and eight assists in the Championship for Brentford last season.
And many West Ham fans are expecting him to light up the Premier League this term.
David Moyes must be absolutely delighted to have Benrahma amongst his ranks at the London Stadium.
And former Southampton and Leicester City boss Claude Puel told the Athletic just how highly he rates the 25-year-old ace:
“He was a bit like Eden Hazard. Not tall but strong in his legs and with the ability to be strong against defenders. He always had the quality to make the difference, to dribble past two or three players, but it was important for him to find good solutions after that. We worked a lot in front of goal, to help him find more possibilities to score or give assists. He worked a lot but after that it was important also to have game time. The Championship was a good possibility for him to put all his quality and exercise into practice.”
Puel worked with Benrahma during his time in charge of Nice. So he clearly knows the Algerian very well.
And if the 25-year-old goes on to become even half as good as Real Madrid ace Eden Hazard, then West Ham have one seriously talented player on their hands.
