Fabrizio Romano has taken to Twitter directly in response to the comments from David Moyes regarding West Ham ace Declan Rice.
The 23-year-old has been absolutely sensational for the Hammers over the past three years and he seems to have reached a new level entirely this season.
As a result, Rice is in high demand.
Dec is being courted by the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea (The Telegraph).
Fabrizio Romano reported on Friday that Rice had turned down a third new contract offer from West Ham:
Moyes then responded to that claim, when speaking to reporters yesterday afternoon:
Fabrizio Romano fires back at David Moyes after Declan Rice claims
The Italian journalist is highly respected in his field.
So it could be argued that David Moyes was perhaps being slightly disrespectful with his comments regarding Romano’s Rice claim.
And the Italian responded emphatically:
“West Ham insist he’s untouchable” literally in the same tweet… and he never denied that Declan turned down the proposal – because it’s true :).”
It’s a fair comment from Romano in all fairness.
The crux of the matter, however, is that West Ham still hold all the cards.
Rice is under contract at the London Stadium until the summer of 2024 and the club have the option to extend that deal by another 12 months.
Fabrizio Romano suggested that Declan Rice hasn’t signed a new deal with West Ham. That might be true, but the Hammers are still in a strong position. We are in no hurry to sell Dec.
And who knows…if the West Ham board back Moyes to the hilt in the summer window, then Rice may well hang around for the foreseeable future.
