Emerson Palmieri has opened up after joining West Ham United from London rivals Chelsea yesterday evening.

The Hammers signed the 28-year-old on a five-year deal for around £13 million plus £2 million in achievable add-ons.

David Moyes was obviously keen to bring in a left wing-back before the transfer window slammed shut.

And he has done just that by signing Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea.

Hopefully the Italy international turns out to be a big hit at the London Stadium. He was clearly keen to move to East London this summer…

Emerson Palmieri opens up on West Ham move

The 28-year-old spoke to WHUFC.com and responded when asked about the reasons behind his move to the London Stadium from Chelsea:

“I’m very happy to be here and to arrive here. It’s a big challenge for me, it’s a big team, so I’m very happy to be here and I’m ready. Personally, since the first day I arrived here in England, I always saw the big clubs and I always watched the big games and I knew the history about West Ham. The history is so, so big for this team and so when I knew about the interest for sure I said ‘Yes, let’s go, I want to go there’ and I’m here now! I can’t wait to get started in a West Ham shirt.”

That’s great to hear.

We think Emerson could be a really good signing for West Ham, as long as Moyes plays him as a left wing-back, rather than an orthodox left-back.

£15 million doesn’t sound like bad value for the Italian. He must be a decent player. He wouldn’t have started the Euro final against England if he wasn’t.

And it goes without saying that the Chelsea man is a lot better than Aaron Cresswell.

The Chelsea star possesses exceptional technique and has an absolute wand of a left foot. He won the Champions League in 2021 and that kind of winning mentality and experience could prove to be hugely important for the Hammers.

Hopefully Emerson Palmieri ends up being a top-class signing for West Ham.
