Duje Caleta-Car will surely now be regretting not having joined West Ham in the summer of 2020.
At the time, the Croatia international turned down a move to the Hammers because he wanted to play Champions League football with Marseille (RMC Sport).
The Sun claimed that the Hammers made a £25 million bid for Caleta-Car just before last summer’s transfer window slammed shut.
The 24-year-old now surely wishes that he had moved to the London Stadium.
Marseille ended up finishing rock bottom of their Champions League group with one win and five defeats from their six games.
The French side then went on to finish in fifth place in Ligue 1, missing out on qualification for the Champions League.
Duje Caleta-Car surely regrets turning down West Ham
Marseille are in the Europa League this season but so are West Ham. Things certainly seem a lot brighter in East London than they do on France’s south coast in footballing terms at least.
The Ligue 1 outfit are struggling financially whilst it seems as though West Ham are going from strength to strength.
To add insult to injury, RMC Sport claims that Marseille are angry with Caleta-Car for turning down a deadline day move to Wolves. The Croatian allegedly wanted to join West Ham instead.
He had his chance and he turned it down one year ago. Hammers boss David Moyes ended up bringing Kurt Zouma to West Ham 12 months later.
Caleta-Car now finds himself in a really difficult position. And the 24-year-old will surely wish that he could turn back time to last summer.
