He trained with his new teammates just twice before then starting in the superb 3-0 win at Leicester City.

Coufal was hugely impressive in the game.

And captain for the game, Rice, has hailed his new teammate as a ‘warrior’ (whufc.com).

“It was an unbelievable afternoon (at Leicester),” Rice told whufc.com.

“Going into the game, they were at the top of the league, just behind Everton, and in great form. But, look, so are we. That’s now three great performances in a row in the league. We knew about Jamie Vardy’s threat and what he wants to do.

Rice hails ‘warrior’ Coufal

“Special mention to Vladimir Coufal also, who I thought was absolutely outstanding today.

“A top player, warrior, and I can’t praise the backline enough. They keep talking to us and it’s a massive team effort.”

High praise indeed for Coufal after his fantastic debut.

There are more tough examinations to come on the horizon with Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool up next after the international break.

Tough examinations to come but new Hammer’s debut bodes well

Academy graduate Ben Johnson had impressed at the end of last season.

But his performances in pre-season and this term have been a cause for concern.

It appears Coufal will be the number one right-back even when Ryan Fredericks returns from injury.
