Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips would make a great combo according to David Moyes, when speaking to The Times. And perhaps we will see the West Ham and Leeds stars operate together for England this afternoon against Croatia.
Rice has been superb for the Hammers over the past three years.
The 22-year-old has been far and away our best and most consistent player.
The same can be said of Whites midfielder Kalvin Phillips. The 25-year-old has evolved into one of the most important players Marcelo Bielsa has at his disposal at Elland Road.
Rice and Phillips squared off against one another at the London Stadium and Elland Road this season.
Being West Ham fans, we will always say that Dec is on another level to Kalvin.
That’s not undermining the Leeds ace’s talent. He is a great player in his own right.
Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips a good combo
David Moyes thinks the two midfielders would work very well with each other.
The Scot told The Times:
“It means sometimes dropping between the centre backs or moving out to the sides to get on the ball — it’s essential not to just sit in the same spot in midfield — and Declan is adept at putting himself in the right place so the team can build up through him. Another with those skills is Kalvin Phillips who for Leeds United this season was really good at working hard to get into himself into space to receive the ball and start attacks. In some games he and Declan could be quite a combination.”
Against the better sides, playing Rice and Phillips together may well be essential.
Against the poorer teams, however, playing the West Ham and Leeds stars together just won’t make any sense.

Whatever ever happens, it will be very interesting to see the Hammers and Whites stars playing in tandem in certain games for England, rather than against each other for West Ham and Leeds.
