So up stepped his replacement West Ham captain Declan Rice – after some back and forth with Jesse Lingard – to fire the spot kick home.

Rice has been named as West Ham’s replacement on penalties when Noble is not playing.

Speaking after West Ham’s win, Rice revealed to whufc.com he has a history of miserable penalty misses.

Rice admitted he missed three tournament-winning spot kicks in his academy days.

Had Moyes known that worrying fact he may well have opted to hand penalty duty to someone else.

But Rice didn’t let anyone down, showing how much he has grown but firing home into the bottom corner.

“In the academy days we used to go on tournaments,” Rice told whufc.com.

“And we used to get to finals and no lie I’ve had the winning penalty to win it three times, three different tournaments, and missed every time.

“No, no!,” Rice responded when asked if he told Moyes that before the game.

“So now it’s kind of about composing myself, visualising it, practising in training. Obviously when Nobes is on the pitch he takes them. I think if you don’t practice them and don’t have that mentality that you’re going to hit the back of the net you ain’t going to score.

“So I had to change that and it’s something I’ve been working on so I’m buzzing to score.”
