David Moyes spoke to reporters after West Ham’s disappointing 2-0 home defeat to Wolves yesterday, and responded when asked about Jeremy Ngakia’s selection for the match, as quoted by Football.London.

The 19-year-old is set to walk away from the Hammers for nothing at the end of this month.

The Daily Mail suggest that West Ham have offered Ngakia a new £5,000 per week deal to remain at the London Stadium – a massive £15,000 per week less than the teenager is demanding.

And losing the youngster for nothing would obviously be a massive blow for the Hammers. That’s in spite of him having played just five Premier League games for the club.

The Guardian claimed a couple of days ago that David Moyes still wants to keep the talented young right-back at the club, however.

As things stand, right-back will leave

But who knows what will happen. It seems fairly obvious that West Ham need to offer Ngakia more money if they want to keep him.

Whether they will do that, however, is highly debatable.

Moyes spoke to reporters after yesterday’s defeat to Wolves, and explained why he chose to start Ngakia considering the fact that it looks likely the young starlet will leave, as quoted by Football.London:

“I’ve always said that I think we have got a wee bit of hope that he will choose to stay. I thought Jeremy was more ready and fit to start than Ryan Fredericks. I noticed in training that I thought Jeremy was more ready. I want Jeremy to stay but if he chooses not to that will be his choice. We’ll be disappointed after giving him the opportunities and what we’re doing for him.”

Ngakia impressed on the most part against Wolves. He does still look extremely raw, however.

Maybe some common ground needs to be found. £5,000 per week isn’t enough for a Premier League football who’s playing regularly. £20,000 per week, however, is arguably too much for someone who has just played five senior games.

West Ham have massive problems in the right-back department. And losing Ngakia would just exacerbate those issues.

The Hammers may just need to to pay up if they really want to keep the teenage sensation.
