David Moyes must drop £19 million West Ham player as a matter of urgency

What on earth does West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek have to do for David Moyes to drop him for a prolonged period of time?

Signed for £19 million way back in the summer of 2020 after a successful loan spell at the London Stadium (WHUFC.com), Soucek was an instant hit with the Hammers.

The 27-year-old bagged 10 Premier League goals during his first full season with West Ham (Transfermarkt).

He was brilliant during the 2020/21 campaign but the form he showed then is a long and distant memory. He’s quite simply not the same player anymore.

We have extensively covered how Soucek should not be in the starting XI anymore right here on Hammers News.

It seems as though David Moyes doesn’t agree with that notion though, and in my opinion, that stubbornness is costing West Ham dearly…

David Moyes continuing to start Tomas Soucek for West Ham is utter madness

The Czech Republic international has undoubtedly been one of West Ham’s most underperforming players so far this season.

In fact, Soucek has been a passenger for the Hammers over the past year really, and Moyes cannot afford to start him again for the foreseeable future.

Quite what he has to do for the Scot to drop him is anyone’s guess though.

Sure, he’s strong in the air but Moyes cannot continue to overlook all the other stuff that Soucek does so incredibly poorly.

Soucek has been completely ineffective for West Ham over the past 6-12 months. He seems to have lost his goalscoring instinct, and whilst his role for the Hammers has undoubtedly changed, his positioning, body shape and shooting technique all seem to be well off.

One of the 52-capped Czech Republic international’s worst features is his ability when in possession of the football. And on top of that, his passing ability is very poor as well. This slows West Ham down in transition, and we cannot afford to be laborious in our build-up play in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old’s passing was once again well off the levels that Premier League football demands during our defeat to Everton yesterday.

He just doesn’t progress the ball quick enough and more often than not, just plays it sideways or backwards.

His movement is painfully slow and laborious as well. I’ve seen milk turn quicker. The ex-Slavia Prague midfielder seems completely and utterly lost at the moment.

It has reached a point now where Soucek’s horrendous form is starting to cost the Hammers every single game. It’s even more annoying when Flynn Downes is just sitting on the bench looking on.

David Moyes needs to act now and drop Tomas Soucek from the West Ham starting lineup. And not just for one or two games either. He’s not good enough for what we need anymore.
