The 21-year-old has been absolutely superb since filling in for the injured Vladimir Coufal.

And he was quite simply sensational yesterday against Tottenham.

Johnson is a truly incredible talent. He will undoubtedly be offered a new long-term contract soon.

The young West Ham star’s recent rise to prominence proves that David Moyes got yet another transfer decision spot on.

David Moyes raves about ‘fabulous’ Ben Johnson

It wasn’t long ago when we were all fuming that Moyes allowed Jeremy Nkagia to leave on a free transfer.

The 21-year-old joined the Hornets on a free transfer in August 2020.

The Hammers fans were fuming that we allowed a young prospect to leave rather than offer him a professional contract.

Ngakia has gone on to make just 20 league starts for Watford, however, and he hasn’t impressed whatsoever.

Moyes got it absolutely spot on though. He clearly had faith in Ben Johnson’s ability. And he has been proved right.

The Scot spoke to reporters after the game yesterday about the young right-back’s performance against Tottenham, as quoted by Football.London:

“I actually thought young Ben Johnson, when you think that we’ve been with a couple of the right-backs recently, I think Ben Johnson has had three games this week, and I thought he was fabulous.”

Those comments prove just how highly Moyes rates Johnson.

At the same time, they serve as evidence of how right the Scot was to let Ngakia leave for Watford last year.

There was a time when every single decision Moyes made came under fierce scrutiny and criticism from the West Ham fans.

Now the Hammers faithful trust the manager unconditionally.
