Club Brugge ace Hans Vanaken has confirmed that West Ham did indeed make a move to sign him before Monday’s transfer deadline, when speaking to Sporza.
In other news…Report: West Ham could try and sign £5 million-rated 24-year-old star
According to a report from HLN, Hammers boss David Moyes was prioritising a move to sign the 28-year-old.
HLN also suggested that the Belgium international would have been Moyes’s dream signing.
West Ham ended up signing absolutely nobody on deadline day, however, despite Moyes’s best efforts. And we are now seriously lacking any kind of strength in depth in pretty much every single department.
Things could have been so different had we brought in Vanaken.
And the 28-year-old told Sporza that the Hammers did indeed make an attempt to bring him to the London Stadium:
“It’s true that Club refused a bid, but that has always been communicated correctly. In the end, Club Brugge made an effort towards me. If I really wanted to go, I might have played it dirtier, but that’s not how I am. It also shows the respect that there is between me and the club.”
Stats
Vanaken has racked up four goals and two assists already this season in just six league games for Club Brugge (Who Scored).
Last season he racked up 13 goals and three assists in 29 Jupiler League outings (Transfermarkt).
The 28-year-old would have been an exceptional addition for West Ham. But he has now signed a new contract with Club Brugge. So it is highly unlikely that we will see the Belgian in a Hammers shirt any time in the near future.
