David Moyes has responded when asked about the performance of Said Benrahma for West Ham against Nottingham Forest.

The Algerian was in fine form for the Hammers yesterday afternoon and did everything he could to turn the game around.

West Ham lost 1-0 to Forest and it was an incredibly frustrating defeat.

A lot of players struggled, especially during the first-half and Forest were by far the better team.

The Hammers turned things around in the second-half though and we were more than deserving of at least a point.

We hit the bar twice, Declan Rice missed a penalty and Kurt Zouma had a header cleared off the line.

Said Benrahma was the man of the match for me but Moyes refused to go overboard with his praise of the winger…

David Moyes delivers Said Benrahma verdict

The Scot faced the media yesterday after the Hammers lost 1-0 at the City Ground.

And Moyes responded when asked what he thought of Benrahma’s performance for West Ham against Nottingham Forest, as quoted by Football.London:

“He did much better today, we just can’t get an end product on the end. We can’t get a cross, we can’t get a final pass, we can’t get a final finish, which would give us the difference. The other part of it was much better today, we’re trying to get the next bit. Today, that was just lacking at the end of not just his game, but quite a few of them.”

That’s an unfair assessment from Moyes as far as I’m concerned.

Benrahma did have the end product – he put the ball in the back of the net in the first-half. It wasn’t his fault that the goal was harshly ruled out.

The 27-year-old was also an inch away from scoring another from a free-kick when his strike clattered against the underside of the crossbar. He could have had an assist as well after he teed up Pablo Fornals, whose shot also ricocheted back off the woodwork.

Moyes’s treatment of Benrahma has been very strange over the past couple of years in my opinion. He just seems so hesitant to ever give him the praise that he deserves but at the same time, he’s very quick to jump all over him when he plays badly.

Hopefully Benrahma maintains the form that he showed yesterday. If he does that, the goals and assists will flow with regularity.

If that does happen, it would still be a surprise to see David Moyes go overboard with his praise for Said Benrahma though.
