Claude Puel has made a promise to the West Ham fans about Said Benrahma this season, when speaking exclusive to The Athletic.

The 25-year-old arrived at the London Stadium on loan from Brentford last summer.

He ended up joining on a permanent £25 million deal in January, having spent the previous three months at the London Stadium on a £4 million loan deal (Eurosport).

The Algerian winger has shown glimpses of his brilliance in a West Ham shirt. But he just has’t produced the goods on a consistent basis for the Hammers.

Benrahma has been truly outstanding during pre-season for David Moyes, however. The Scot will surely have been delighted with his performances.

It seems as though the West Ham winger is on the verge of exploding into a truly elite Premier League player.

Puel, who managed Benrahma during their time together at Nice, told The Athletic that this season will be the Algerian ace’s time to shine:

“What a talent and I honestly believe West Ham fans haven’t seen the best of Said Benrahma. This season will be his best. He’s matured so much and will be keen to add more goals and assists to his game. When I was his manager he had to improve his finishing. There was a game we played where he missed a good chance and I kept telling him he needed to score. He had to learn the art of movement and being in the right place to provide assists. He had the ability to make the difference. At Nice we didn’t have money to buy players so we tried to develop players like Benrahma. Now he’s close to being a complete player.”

Benrahma certainly has the ability to bag 10 goals and 10 assists this season.

Once the 25-year-old fine-tunes the end product, he could be scary good for West Ham.

David Moyes really needs Benny to have a great season, with moves for Matheus Pereira and Jesse Lingard now looking highly unlikely to say the least.

Is this Benrahma’s time? Claude Puel certainly thinks so. And there aren’t many who know and understand the Algerian like the Frenchman does.
