Big things are expected of the young Hammers duo this season.
The right-back and the central midfielder are both 21 now and this upcoming campaign seems like the ideal time for the West Ham starlets to step up to another level.
Johnson and Coventry both really impressed for the Hammers during pre-season.
And David Moyes surely has both of them in his plans this season.
Ben Johnson raves about Conor Coventry
Moyes has plenty of talented youngsters amongst his ranks at The London Stadium.
None more so than Johnson and Coventry.
The 21-year-old right-back highlighted just how good his Hammers teammate is when speaking to WHUFC.com:
“Conor is someone who understands what it is to come through the ranks at this Club. He’s a top lad and a top player. He’s hard working and he’s going to give you everything and sometimes you don’t find players who have both the technical ability and that work ethic. Conor wears his heart on his sleeve and everyone can see that. One word that comes to mind when I think of him is ‘perseverance’. He’s a great guy, we get along really well. People at the training ground say we’re like brothers! We’ve played together for eleven years now and it’s just lovely to be playing alongside one another now. Overall, he’s just a great guy, a top player and it’s just great to see him doing well.”
Hopefully Moyes gives Conor a chance to shine this season.
West Ham certainly need him to provide back up for Tomas Soucek, Declan Rice and Mark Noble.
One thing’s for sure, the 21-year-old certainly looks like he’s ready to make an impact in the Premier League for the Hammers. And it could actually be argued that he is currently ahead of Noble in the central midfield pecking order in East London.
