Ben Johnson absolutely raved about his West Ham teammate Declan Rice when speaking to talkSPORT yesterday afternoon.
In other news…Report: West Ham close to making fifth summer signing
The 22-year-old Hammers ace covered himself in glory with England at EURO 2020 this summer.
What an incredible player and what an exceptionally well-rounded young man Rice is.
The problem for West Ham is that the entire world has seen that now!
It really would be no surprise off one of the big boys came in with a huge offer for the Hammers star this summer.
The thought of that is really worrying. Especially when considering the fact that Rice has already rejected two new contract offers from the club (The Telegraph’s Matt Law).
Ben Johnson raves about Declan Rice
With Felipe Anderson now gone and his extortionate wages off the books, hopefully the West Ham owners have more ammunition to tie Rice down to a new deal.
Johnson spoke to talkSPORT and shared just how important the 22-year-old is to the Hammers:
“We know how good he is. I think he gets a lot of stick from other fans, who watch the games but don’t look at football subjectively, they don’t look at football how we do. We see the game differently, he’s a top, top player. Of course we want to keep him, and hopefully we can build our team around him. It’s a pleasure to have him on our team, he’s such a humble guy. We’re just so proud of him and what he’s done, he’s inspired us and is pushing us to be at that top level.”
Rice is so vitally important for West Ham.
It will be pivotal for David Moyes to keep him at the London Stadium this summer.
Let’s hope that the board are prepared to dig their heels in if the big boys come knocking.
West Ham quite simply wouldn’t be the same team without Dec. And Johnson’s comments on him yesterday prove that.
